Introduction

Big Idea: Jesus' parable teaches us the danger of mere 'moral reformation' without a true saving relationship with Jesus Christ.

1. The Perspectives of the Parable

A. The Demon’s Perspective [Mt. 12:43–45a]

B. The Man’s Perspective [Mt. 12:43–45a]

C. Christ’s Perspective [Mt. 12:45b]

2. The Principles of the Parable

A. What We Should Not Learn
1) That personal reformation or moral improvement is a bad thing.
2) That every improvement of life will be affected by demonic influence.

B. What We Should Learn
1) Temporary improvements of life are a flimsy foundation upon which to settle a firm hope of the security and safety of your soul.
2) The only thing that gives us everlasting hope and purpose and security is the work of the Lord Jesus Christ–his presence and power in our lives.
3) We should ask ourselves: “What is the state and condition of my soul?”

Conclusion

A. A Warning to the ‘Moralist’ [2 Pet. 2:20–22]
B. A Warning to the Believer [Eph. 3:16–17]
C. A Warning to the Evangelist [Jer. 6:14]
