Introduction

Big Idea: No matter where you are in the Lord, you need sound teachers to remind you often of the basic truths of the faith so that you stay on course.

Sound Teachers . . . 

  1. Are always ready to remind their students of what they already know. [2 Pet. 1:12a]
  2. Emphasize the basic truths of the Christian life. [2 Pet. 1:12b]
  3. Are in earnest because they know that life is short, so they use their time to serve the Lord. [2 Pet. 1:13–14]
    1. Because life is short, live as a pilgrim, focused on the things that are eternal.
    2. Because life is short, cultivate a biblical view of death.
    3. Because life is short, we must use our remaining time on earth to serve the Lord.
  4. Are diligent to awaken their students to remember the essential truths that will guide them long after the teacher is gone. [2 Pet. 1:15]

Applications

  1. Read the Bible regularly.
  2. Familiarize yourself with the Bible through frequent repetition or use.
  3. Regularly sit under the faithful ministry of the Word.
  4. Read solid books that will help you grow to know Christ better.
